Is my EU driving licence valid in Georgia?

Foreign driving licences are generally accepted for visitors for up to one year after your last entry into Georgia, provided the licence itself is valid and you carry the original (a photo or copy is not enough).

Do I need an International Driving Permit (IDP)?

For a licence issued in an EU country, an IDP is usually not required by rental companies and is generally described as recommended rather than mandatory. It can still be a useful translation if you are stopped, and it is worth carrying if your licence is not in Latin script. If you want certainty, ask us before you book.

Basic road rules to know

Georgia drives on the right. The usual limits are 60 km/h in built-up areas, 90 km/h outside them and up to 110 km/h on motorways, unless a sign says otherwise. Speed cameras are common.

Wear your seat belt, do not hold a phone while driving, and treat the alcohol limit as zero: it is very low and sources describe it differently, so the only safe rule is not to drive after drinking.

Children need appropriate restraints, so tell us the ages of any children when you book and we can discuss a child seat.

Driving style and mountain roads
